Fit in

Fit into - to be able to occupy a physical space, inside of something else
Examples:
The gift fits into the box very well.

I can't fit into my sister's jeans because I'm too tall.

Fit in with - to have similar or complementary qualities; to be compatible with or get along with

Examples:
She fits in very well with her host family because they all like to play soccer.

I hope I'll fit in with the kids at my new school.

Note: When you're trying to fit in with a new group, you may think that using slang will help you seem more a part of the culture. Be careful! Observe and listen until you're certain of the meaning and context. Make sure the slang words are not insulting or offensive. And it is usually best not to speak to parents, teachers or people in positions of authority with slang. Ask a native speaker you trust if you aren't sure.
